Around the Clubhouse

Around the Clubhouse (angry)

Welcome to your place for all the light-hearted golf content you need.  We will be going around the clubhouse, reacting to many of the viral golf moments of the past week.  From pro golf to your horrific swing, if it makes you laugh, then it may show up.  This week we look at some of the best states for golf.  Grab your beer, and let's get into it.

What state has the best golf courses?

California

Pebble Beach is one of the most well-known courses to golf fans.  Special for its incredible ocean views, the course plays very difficult in the coastal windy conditions.  The course has hosted 6 US Opens and is ranked number one  in the North American golf resort rankings.  Between Spyglass and Pebble, a golf fans dream weekend can come true.

The Riviera Country Club is another Cali course that is a bucket list item for many golf fans.  Home of the Genesis Invitational, Riv was recently awarded the 2031 US Open.  The course is filled with character and fun on every hole, not to mention the incredible location by Santa Monica.

LACC is another course that would be a dream to play.  Although the 2023 US Open wasn't well put together from an event management side of things, the course is still fantastic.  Cypress Point Club and San Francisco CC are two other impeccable Cali courses.  All in all, this list has to put California in the top two or three.

New York

Shinnecock is one of the most spectacular courses in the world and is likely number one on my list of dream courses to play.  Home of the 2018 US Open, Shinnecock and all of its beauty has been shown many times and the links style course looks like so much fun to play.

Winged-Foot is one of the historical country clubs on this list.  Although the course is quite difficult, this course will test your golf knowledge and creativity from start to finish.

Fishers Island ranks top 15 in the nations best courses year after year.  Located just off the coast of Connecticut, but in Fishers Island, New York, the course has impeccable views.  Look at that course man Sheeesh.  The National Golf Links of America, Friar's Head, and Bethpage round out an unreal list of New York golf courses.

Florida

Absolutely stunning Seminole Golf Club starts out the list for Florida.  The oceanside views are spectacular with the calm trees sprinkled around the course.  The course is designed by Donald Ross to make matters even better.

TPC Sawgrass joins the strong list of Florida courses.  Known for the 17th Island green and Pete Dye design, the stadium course is one that all golf fans would dream of playing.

Streamsong Golf Resort is a very interesting course covered in white sand bunkers.  Streamsong has two courses that show up year after year on lists of the best courses to play.  This course is full of sand and water, making the chance of anger very high, but the incredible layout is breathtaking.  Calusa Pines, Jupiter-Hills, Indian Creek, and Bay-Hill  are four more incredible courses in the state of Florida.

Arizona

TPC Scottsdale is the most famous Arizona golf course with its party like scenes for the Waste Management. The Estancia Club full of rocky terrain and the mountainous Forest Highlands are some other fantastic AZ courses.

South Carolina

South Carolina is quietly one of the best golf states there is.  With Kiawah Island, Harbour Town and Yeamans Hall, there is a plethora of unreal golf trips in the state.

FedEx St. Jude Championship heat wave

It was HOT this week in Memphis.  It didn't matter if you were from Florida, Texas, or the Midwest, the heat was impacting everyone.  The heat index reached 111 degrees Friday, forcing the players to spend hours in the extreme weather.  The humidity shot up following a rainstorm and players said it felt like a sauna out there.

In his interview, Tommy Fleetwood looks like he just got out of a pizza oven.  Hovland coming from Norway can't be enjoying it out there.  If the PGA was ever to allow the players to wear shorts now would have been the time... and they didn't.  Not sure if shorts would have made much of a difference at that point, but clearly no change is ever coming.

The caddies are the ones that were really forced to face the conditions head on, carrying bags in the extreme conditions.  We lost one caddie this week to heat exhaustion and were probably lucky to not have lost many more.

Sandwhiches with Spieth

Spieth is just such an awesome dude!  Imagine sharing a sandwich with Jordan Spieth... like what in the hell is happening. To see him that low key during a round when he is screaming at himself just before and after is pretty awesome.

Burns hole in one

Sammy Slam Dunks!  The chance of a hole in one is 12,500 to 1... now imagine the odds of having the ball dunk straight in without bouncing.  That is one in a million Burnsy, can we get a little more celebration.
