Sunday Save Your A$$ Parlay: 2023 Open Championship

Sunday Save Your Ass Parlay

What’s up, Golf Addicts!

To hell with the narratives, the wind has left the building, and Brian Harman is leading The Open Championship by 5 strokes after day 3. For some reason, I talked myself out of Harmon pre-tournament and now I’m in a hole. Credit to the Georgia Bulldog because he’s played the course tremendously this week. When scoring conditions became better, and we saw guys climbing up the leaderboard, he maintained his pace, hit fairways, and drained putts. With rain and some wind in the forecast for Sunday, there might be some variability that could see Harman tested. The pack will need to be mistake free and capitalize on every chance to catch him.

The Pack at Royal Liverpool

With Harmon as the center of attention. A group of guys took advantage of the easier opportunities and attempted to make this a battle down the stretch. Jon Rahm was on fire on Saturday, setting the course record and firing an 8-under 63 to get himself into 3rd place.

Cameron Young, who hasn’t been in good form the past few months, has flipped the script this week. He leads the field in Tee-to-Green, Approach, Off-the-tee, and Ball-striking. Young shot a 5-under 66 on Saturday to finish in the 2nd position, 5 strokes back of Harman. Jason Day and Tommy Fleetwood have continued their good play this week and also find themselves in the chasing pack if Harman comes back to the field. For this week’s Sunday Parlay, I’m looking at three golfers who have played well on tough courses, have some distance if the course gets soft, and are all within or one stroke back of the cashing finishing position.

Finishing Position Picks to Parlay

Top 5: Viktor Hovland (+130 DraftKings)

Viktor has been very consistent this week and was able to fend off the tougher conditions on day 2 to boost his morale and fire a 5-under 66 on Saturday. The Norwegian fashionista is 3rd in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green and Ball-striking for the tourney and is top-10 in Approach and Off-the-Tee. His driver has been accurate and I like his decision making and aggressive play to give him a chance and cash us a top 5 on Sunday.

Top 10: Sepp Straka (-125 DraftKings)

Big Seppy hasn’t slowed down since his win at the John Deere. We consistently see Sepp competing on tough layouts and his iron play has been stellar this week. Sepp is top-5 this week in Approach, Greens In Regulation, and Fairways hit. Sepp currently sits in 4th place and I like that recipe for a continued push on Sunday to cash us a top-10.

Top 20: Xander Schauffele (+115 DraftKings)

Like Hovland, Xander also had some issues in round 2. In round 3 however, we saw him get back to form and piece together a 3-under 68 to finish the day at 1-under par. Xander is a pros-pro and his performance in past Opens gives me confidence in his play on the final day. I like Xander to build on his day 3 momentum and go low on Sunday to safely cash us a top-20.
