The Power Fade: 2025 Sony Open

The Approach for Key fades at the 2025 Sentry

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you the Season Premier of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

After a historic performance by Hideki Matsuyama, the PGA TOUR moves on to the big island and downtown Honolulu for the Sony Open.

Waialee Country Club, a Par 70 tipping out at 7,044 yards plays host to the Sony Open. A familiar venue to many, Waialee CC has hosted every Sony Open dating back to 1965.

Unlike last week at Kapalua, where you could land a 747 on the fairways and greens, the Sony Open is a much different animal.

Small Greens means the players must be accurate. With only 2 par 5's, Par 4 scoring will be a huge factor this week. While we wont see -35 this week, we should still see a winning score hover around -18.

Before we dive into the Power Fades for the week, I'd be remiss to not mention last year's champion Grayson Murray.

After such a triumph at the Sony, we know now that Grayson was battling something that eventually overtook him. If you are feeling this way talk to someone. Check in on your friends, your family, even if they are a virtual family like we have in the Nut Hut.

As we honor Grayson this week, Bring on the Power Fades for the 2025 Sony Open.

Harry Hall ($8,100)

Our first Power Fade for the Sony Open is a new comer to the PF, but based on his price is someone who I feel will be popular, but the stats say is headed for a let down. Harry Hall is our first Power Fade of the Week at $8,100 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

Kapalua is made for Harry Hall, and it wouldn't surprise me if he were to have continued success on that golf course. Waialee is a different animal.

While you don't have to be the most accurate off the tee at Sony, the stats that Hall has been showing are deeply concerning.

Ranking 131st in the field for Good Drives Gained is not something I want to be messing with. Add on the fact that Hall ranks 112th in Strokes Gained Off the Tee.

It hasn't gotten much better for Hall on approach. From the key range of 150 to 200 yards, Harry ranks a putrid 135th, and this includes ranking 131st for Greens in Regulation.

All in all, I wouldn't be looking to chase last week's great finish at Kapalua. With these stats, and Harry Hall's volatility, we are best served to look elsewhere this week.

Sahith Theegala ($9,100)

Our second Power Fade of the week is a man who has the ability to win this week, but just isn't in the form to perform at the Sony Open. Sahith Theegala is our second Power Fade of the week at $9,100 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

Sahith is an interesting case when it comes to a Power Fade. On the one hand it is super risky to fade him on the talent issue, as he can right the ship at any moment. However, recent stats lend itself to fading our favorite Pepperdine alum.

Sahith has been struggling on Par 4's of late, ranking 60th in scoring on these key holes. Theegs has also struggled with Opportunities Gained, ranking 76th.

Par 3 scoring will be key to success this week, and interestingly Sahith has struggled in this category. Ranking 108th is shocking and considering those around Sahith in his price range we can fade and play Bobby MacIntyre or Benny An.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week as we head back to the mainland USA and the American Express.
