The Power Fade: 2025 Sentry
The Approach for Key fades at the 2025 Sentry
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you the Season Premier of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
We are back baby!! The 2025 PGA Tour Season kicks off in beautiful Hawaii. For those of us north of the Mason-Dixon Line, it is officially Weather Porn Season.
Kapalua's Plantation Course, the rare Par 73 is the site of this weeks event. A No Cut event means scoring will be low, low, low.. Did I mention the boys will be going low. We should see scoring in the high -20 range possibly even hitting -30 if a player is really on their game at this 7,600 Ben Crenshaw/Bill Coore Masterpiece.
Kapalua plays as a true second shot golf course. Everyone will be hitting the fairway this week. Large greens are a signature of the property and with high GIR percentage those who can putt will be successful.
As we embark to paradise, without further adieu for the first time in the 2025 season, BRING ON THE POWER FADES!
Patrick Cantlay ($9,900)
Our 2025 PF starts out with a familiar name to the 2024 Power Fade. Patrick Cantlay, who appeared 4 times in this article last season is a fitting first Power Fade of 2025.
Why The Fade Works:
When it comes to the stats, Cantlay hasn't shown the performance required to be successful at Kapalua.
As stated in the intro, Kapalua plays as a true second shot golf course. One of our key approach ranges this week will be 125-150 yards. These wedge opportunities need to be taken advantage of.
Cantlay has not taken advantage of these opportunities. Ranking 44th in Approach from this range is cause for concern, especially in a birdie fest.
Speaking of birdies, Cantlay's birdie average leaves something to be desired. Ranking 29th at $9,900 when you need to score in bunches is fade worthy.
Course history has been a factor for success at Kapalua. Cantlay has been a mixed bag with his finishes at the Plantation Course. At his peak, we have seen two 4th place finishes. Three non top 10 finishes have plagued Cantlay, and at this price fading the Human Rain Delay is the prudent play this week.
Sam Burns ($9,000)
Our second Power Fade of the week is a first timer to the PF. Sam Burns, our favorite LSU Tiger rounds out the Season Premier of the PF at an even 9K on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Sam Burns makes for an interesting fade. Talent wise, it be no shock to see him winning on Sunday night. Statistically we have a different story.
Burns has the double whammy when it comes to approach stats. Ranking 40th in overall Approach and 44th from 125-150 yards is troubling.
Course History has also been a struggle for Burns. With finishes of 19th, 32nd, and 33rd at Kapalua we should wait to roster Sammy B until we return to the mainland USA in a couple weeks.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week as we head to Honolulu for the Sony Open.
