DraftKings Pivot Plays for the RBC Heritage 2021
We've scoured the DraftKings GPP ownership projections looking for the names that are setting up to be extremely popular in GPP tournaments. More importantly, I'm going to tell you about 2 other players with as much upside at significantly less projected ownership. Ownership leverage and equal or greater upside from the players we're pivoting away from is the name of the game every week for the Pivot Point article.
Popular DraftKings GPP Plays & Pivots
Will Zalatoris $9700 projected at 14%
There are a slew of elite ball strikers above 9k this week that are in great form and the ownership projections are all over the place. While looking at the projections, I see Will Zalatoris anywhere from 10-20%...thanks for the help. There is no way everyone above 9k finds 20% ownership.
There are two reasons that I think Zalatoris falls slightly through the cracks; roster construction & course history. The most popular build will be to grab two studs up top, and I don’t believe the majority will have Willy Z as their #2 play over others in his same range. I also believe his Lack of course history will have a lot of lineups looking elsewhere. His lack of course history doesn’t bother me, as he's proved his game can compete on any course.
A popular topic at the Heritage every year is who has the Masters hangover? I don’t see there being any post Masters fatigue or motivation issues with Willy Z this week. While the Masters is very special, every event Zalatoris shows up at is another opportunity to earn his PGA tour card. The fact that he doesn’t have full status on tour yet is a very entertaining story that will end at some point this year when he finally breaks through.
Since the beginning of the year, he is tied for 1st in ball striking with Corey Conners and is just ahead of Colin Morikawa. He’s also 2nd in GIR and 5th in DK scoring. Since the start of 2020, Zalatoris has played 29 events between PGA and Korn Ferry tours and has 16 top 10s…I am going to keep riding this kid until he breaks through.
Russell Knox $6800 projected at 2%
There seems to be a lot of good value plays this week and anyone taking two studs will likely have to dip down below 7k for at least one play. The obvious plays down low that are getting the most attention are Matthew NeSmith, Doug Ghim, and everyone’s favorite play Patton Kizzire.
Lost in the mix is the 7th ranked player in total strokes gained in this field at Harbour Town, Russell Knox. Russell Knox is a known ball striker that consistently hit’s fairways and greens at a high percentage.
In seven trips to Harbour Town, his five made cuts that include 4 top 25s and a T2 in 2016. The worry about Russell Knox is always his putter, but in 24 rounds at Harbour town he is averaging .3 strokes gained per round against the field. I like the upside and course fit for Knox this week at his price and ownership.
