Mayakoba 2020 | PGA Tour
We’re back after a week off for just one event before shutting it down for 2020. Good riddance! It’s already not looking good for 2021 with fans being denied access to the first couple of west coast swing stops, but the PGA has done an incredible job to bring us quality golf and deserves some props. For now, the PGA Tour fall swing ends with the Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN. Let’s get you set to see some green screens on DraftKings this weekend.
What's up golf addicts! AC here, checking in week to week to provide a quick recap of the latest Tour Junkies podcast. I won't cover all of the picks and insight (you need to listen to the show) but I'll give you a few.
The RSM Classic at Sea Island was a bloodbath. The 6/6% might have been the lowest it has ever been but that’s what Longshot SZN needs and we weren’t disappointed. Well… DB was. Unfortunately, a nice Kevin Kisner outright ticket fell in a playoff and it was Robert Streb who left Georgia with the hardware.
El Camaleon Course Preview
As if a perfectly timed beach photo released by this week’s course designer, Greg “pocket pepperoni” Norman, wasn’t intentional, we head to Norman’s El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
Unlike Norman, the course is short and narrow. The rough, however, is thick and girthy with tight, tree-lined fairways. Maybe “The Shark” is packing a well-groomed landing strip as well. Paspalumgrass can be found tee to green as can the sand from the nearby beaches. This is a coastal course though only two holes play along the shore. The weather does typically reflect an oceanside resort.
A birdie-fest is expected with the Par 71, 6,980 yard beauty boasting three drivable par 5s and a winning score of around -20. Brendon Todd is the defending champion with the likes of Matt Kuchar, Patton Kizzire, Pat Perez, and Graeme McDowell in recent years claiming the fall swing title. The field will consist of 132 hopefuls with the top 65 and ties playing the weekend.
Accuracy off the tee will be a key factor this week as not only will being in the fairway play a big part but also your line into the green. Fire up the opportunities gained stat! Approach is huge once again. Putting too. Accuracy and putting will and has won this thing. Add in birdies, par-5 scoring and scrambling and you’ll likely find the recipe for success.
