Masters 2020
Ladies and gentlemen, golf addicts, nut hutters, people of all shapes and ages... it is time! Masters week! Augusta, Georgia and the Augusta National Golf Club are ready to kick off the greatest week of golf all year. The Masters has arrived. Let’s get you set to see some green screens on DraftKings this weekend.Â
What's up golf addicts! Friend of the podcast, AC here, checking in week to week to provide a quick recap of the Tour Junkies Podcast for the week. I won't cover all of the picks and insight (you need to listen to the show), but I'll give you a few.
Nobody is here to read thoughts about the Vivint Houston Open last week. Congrats to Carlos Ortiz. Huge. Booked a ticket for The Masters in April, 2021. That’s right! You like second breakfast? Well we get second Masters! Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka made a charge on Sunday but Ortiz held them off and LongShot SZN has been extended
Augusta National Golf Club Preview
Arguably the most beautiful and saughtafter golf course on planet Earth, Augusta National has been mowed, rolled, broomed and groomed to host the greatest event in golf. There will be no shortage of knowledge this week as ANGC has 87 years of course history.Â
At just under 7,500 yards, the par 72 is a traditional layout with four reachable par 5s. Though it is usually played in the spring, the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed it back to fall, slightly changing the dynamic. Players will experience warmer temps than April and because of the rain and more coming in the forecast, the course will play softer and longer.
Rich in bermudagrass and ryegrass throughout the course, when you approach the green you'll be met by daunting, severely undulated bentgrass greens. The true nature of the ups and downs throughout ANGC can not truly be appreciated or feared unless witnessed in person.
The first change to the cut rule in seven years will be applied this year as just top 50 and ties will make the cut. Anyone within 10 strokes of the lead will no longer play the weekend as the case has been since 2013.
The field has been reduced to 92 with a few withdrawals due to covid and injury, 26 of which are making their Masters debut.
Ownership, like most majors, will play a big role in roster construction this week. The amount of 6/6 will be super high due to the fact that only 3 or so players will even miss the cut. With the length of ANGC, strokes gained off the tee will be important. Your second shot finding the correct landing spot on the greens approach will also be key so you'll need to look at ball striking, strokes gained approach, and of course Fantasy National’s opportunities gained stat.
Par 5 scoring, scrambling, greens in regulation and three-putt avoidance have also played big roles in players who have placed in the top ten over the years.
