Bermuda Championship 2020 | PGA Tour
Let’s get you set to see some green screens on DraftKings this weekend. Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda will host the 2020 Bermuda Championship kicking off Thursday. As the great Pat Perry would say, it is “Bermuda Birdie Bonanza” week on the PGA Tour.
What's up golf addicts! Friend of the podcast, AC here, checking in here week to week to provide a quick recap of the Tour Junkies Podcast for the week. I won't cover all of the picks and insight (you need to listen to the show), but I'll give you a few.
Longshot SZN took a hit last week as Patrick Cantlay took down the ZOZO Championship at Sherwood CC. Justin Thomas and John Rahm were clawing just a stroke behind so DB’s Big Balls betting card or Pat’s Not That Anyone Really Cares betting card didn’t have much hope anyway.
There were some junkies and Nut Hut members (join the Nut Hut) that found some success though and we did get some praise for our picks which aided in the green screens.
Now, let’s dive into the Bermuda triangle.
Port Royal Golf Club Course Preview
Last season this event was played as an alternate event to the WGC-HSBC Champions in China but due to the Covid-19 pandemic all we get for golf this week is the Bermuda Championship. It is live golf however, and though we won’t get or have shotlink data, there are four rounds of course history. Hopefully the volunteers (thank you for your service) can figure out how to use the live-scoring tech so we don’t have any more Byrd-Kirk fiascos...
The Toddfather, Brendon Todd, is the defending champion headlining a field of 132 players with likes of Will Zalatoris (who just needs to make the cut for STM status - huge), Doc Redman, Henrik Stenson, Rasmus Hojgaard, Justin Suh, Danny Willett, Stewart Cink, and well you get the idea.
Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, this Par 71 sits just under 6900 yards which is the second shortest course on tour and is all bermudagrass tee to green.
With almost no rough to speak of, making the green in regulation is very important this week so once again Fantasy National’s opps gained stat will be key (shocker!). Birdies and eagles are also big factors but one thing to keep in mind with any coastal course and surely this week, is the wind.
Thursday’s forecast looks nice with some breeze picking up in the afternoon but Friday looks windy AF. A slight lean on a PM/AM stack looks a bit better right now as I don’t want to be sweating some Friday PM guys trying to make the cut. With all of that said, look for guys who are at the top of ball striking and tee to green.
