Around the Clubhouse
Welcome to your place for all the light-hearted golf content you need.  We will be going around the clubhouse, reacting to many of the viral golf moments of the past week.  From pro golf to your horrific swing, if it makes you laugh, then it may show up. This week we look at Rory McIlroy's Scottish Open win and some special fan moments.  Stay tuned for this week's player to watch.  Grab your beer, and let's get into it.
Rory is victorious
Does anyone deserve this any more than Rory? Â After a few months of solid golf from one of the game's stars, he has been winless since the start of the swing season, where he won the CJ Cup for the second year in a row.
McIlroy has always been one of the strongest leaders on tour, specifically sticking up for the PGA and openly being against LIV. Â With the news of the merger, I think he was up there with some of the guys feeling the most over the past month.
Rory has been firing on all cylinders since May, with six straight top tens, including a 2nd at the US Open. Â McIlroy has gotten heat for not finishing strong and giving away tournaments in 2023, which almost happened again in Scottland. Â Robert MacIntyre's final round of -6 gave the Scot a chance, but Rory was able to hold on by one stroke.
McIlroy has struggled a bit on Sunday at the US Open, Canadian Open and Memorial this year, but didn't let this one slip away.
What a moment and what a performance. Â Rory bombed the absolute crap out of the ball this week, with multiple dingers straight into the fairway. Â He finished first off the tee and tee to green, to absolutely no surprise. Â He struggled some on the greens but still managed to get it done.
Let's see if the (somewhat) hometown kid can keep it going in Liverpool.
Rory played fantastic all week in the Scottish weather, but the winds got the better of him during the celebration.
You gotta love Rory man! Â We hear so many guys bitch and moan when betting is brought up. Â He not only laughed but joked back. Â Even if you don't like him, how can you not enjoy this moment?
Tommy Lad Love
Tommy Fleetwood is one of the most likable guys in all of golf. Â Look at the memories he is giving these young fans! Â This is what makes golf so amazing in my opinion... multiple of the biggest and best golfers of 2023 are taking BeReals and spending time after the round talking to fans. Â Yes, in some other sports, athletes do this, but I just feel like nearly all golfers treat the fans so well and are just genuinely such good guys.
Rickie and Homa joining in on the fun is so great. Â A day these fans will never forget.
Also, what an outfit by Tommy... look good play good and my word, does he look good. Â UK Tommy hits different!
Steph Curry Ace Reaction
Is Steph the best golfer of all the current NBA players? Â The celebration is spectacular. Â All Warriors fans had to be worried he was going to pull a Tony Finau and roll his ankle with the 100-yard sprint celebration. Â I think he celebrated harder here than when he won the NBA Championships... only golf can do that for one of the most athletic dudes on Earth.
Get in the hole
Padraig Harrington's putt sat above the hole as time basically stopped until finally falling into the cup. Â Need a small earthquake in that moment to push that thing into the hole, but whatever did it will be getting a thank you card from the Irishman.
Golfer to Root for at the Open Championship
Brandon Robinson Thompson
After a successful Ewen Ferguson pick last week, I decided to go back to another hometown golfer. Â This week I am choosing a 30-year-old debutant. Â Robinson Thompson golfed at the University of South Carolina before some time on the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica. Â He also has played in Africa, Asia, and most recently on the EuroPro Tour.
This guy is a grinder and has been fighting for his spot on tours. Â He said that playing in the Open will be the highlight of his life, so this will be a dream come true moment.
Although the name got my eye because it reminded me of UCLA star QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the more I read about Brandon, the more I loved him.
