Around the Clubhouse

Around the Clubhouse (angry)

Welcome to your place for all the light-hearted golf content you need.  We will be going around the clubhouse, reacting to many of the viral golf moments of the past week.  From pro golf to your horrific swing, if it makes you laugh, then it may show up.  This week we look into many reactions to the PGA and LIV merger and check out scenes from the Canadian Open. Stay tuned for this week's player to watch.  Grab your beer, and let's get into it.

PGA and LIV Merger Reactions

The golf world was turned upside down Tuesday with the news of LIV, the PGA, and the DP World Tour coming together.  DB's reaction on the left perfectly describes how 95% of golf fans felt when the news broke.  So out of nowhere and so insane to even think about as a fan... the fact that players weren't aware that this was coming is beyond absurd. Talk about a blindside.  This is a "the QB is looking left, and the linebacker comes from the right and annihilates him from his blind spot" moment.

Tweets began flying out from Tour players about finding out the news over Twitter.  Some players took the news a little better than others and were light-hearted with the tweets, but a few were visibly PO'd.  Dylan Wu's tweet stuck out to me as something that likely sums up how many players and fans all feel.  Wow oh wowza the next few weeks are going to be interesting as more news comes out about this all!

Canadian Open Crowds

The crowds this week in Canada were amazing.  Flat out spectacular.  The atmosphere created for the players was one of the best this year.  The O Canada performance for Mike Weir was pretty hilarious, but just great to see the crowds getting into it.

Adam Hadwin had the crowd going and loved the noise.  They hyped up their fellow countryman and he impressed with a fantastic shot.

The "we want Rory" chants were also great to see.  He is a crowd favorite, especially at this event and gang from the North sure gave him his love eh.

My favorite moment of the tournament is the "take if off" chants... The boys were buzzing for Harry Higgs!  What an atmosphere and what a showing by the Canadian fans supporting the PGA Tour.  The love for golf up North is electric.

Carl Yuan Swing

We've all seen a fair share of horrific-looking swings on social media, but rarely on national tv at a PGA event.  Now, to be clear, Carl's swing is pretty good-looking until it ends.  It looks normal, then he goes straight into one of the most strange positions I've seen on a golf course.

The one-arm twisting move seems to not impact the ball flight or swing, just more of an afterthought.  Really really odd, but Yuan has played fantastic in multiple events lately, so if it works it works!

The weird thing is he has different karate moves each time, and they aren't even the same.  Only on drives too, not iron shots.  Swing your swing Carl, if it works, it works, and the entertainment factor is there!

Ball through the driver

What, how, huh?  This just doesn't make sense.  Is this a faulty driver or purely player error?  I'g going with playing error because he hit the ground about 4 inches behind the ball. I don't get how off you have to be for the ball to end up in the back of the club.

Unfortunately, that is not a cheap driver and that is a bit of an investment down the drain.

More Idiots driving carts

Throwback to last week's section about golf cart crashes... we've got another.  Once again, I just don't understand how this happens... it's a straight cart path with little to no slope.  The cart didn't flip sideways, it is facing into the water as if they drove straight into it.

Nothing like a $10,000 Saturday on the course.  Just leave the clubs there, you should never play again.

Young Golfer to Root for at US Open

Barclay Brown

Piggybacking off last week's Ludvig Aberg pick, I am sticking with a former NCAA golf star.  This week's star is a former Stanford Cardinal and hails from Yorkshire, England.

Although Brown is not as highly touted as Aberg is, there are a few very interesting things about him.  First, Barclay belongs to the same golf club as last year's US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick and his brother Alex.

Brown has multiple wins in England on an amateur level and has several great finishes during his college career.

Another significant note... Barclay is a bucket hat wearer.  I already love the guy!.
