The Power Fade: 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AM
The Approach for Key fades at the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AM
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
With Harris English's clutch performance en route to a win at Torrey Pines, we head back up the California Coast for a Clam Bake.
Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill play host to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. Both of these courses play as Par 72's at just over 7,000 yards. Small greens are a prominent feature this week, and players will be playing target golf with many shots coming from the same areas.
While the players will play four rounds (3 on Pebble Beach), The Pro AM is now only 2 rounds alternating between Pebble and Spyglass. Both courses have the potential to be tamed if the weather capitulates. I expect the winning score to hover between -15 to -17.
With only three more weeks left on the West Coast, let us take a peek at who those lucky two men who are our Power Fades for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am!
Scottie Scheffler ($11,900)
Our first Power Fade of the week is an interesting endeavor. Making his return following a freak Christmas Day injury, Scottie Scheffler is our first Power Fade coming in at $11,900 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Trying to fade Scottie based on statistics could be conceived as a fool's errand. While Scottie has a few statistical warts, these are few and far between.
If we were to point out one flaw, Scottie does rank 53rd in Strokes Gained Around the Green. With small greens this week, players will miss greens at a higher volume. Should Scottie's irons be a little rusty this week, he could be playing into one of his "weaknesses".
Scottie could simply be rusty. We have not seen him in weeks, and with a hand injury there is no way to know how ready he truly is.
From a roster construction standpoint, paying nearly 12k for an unknown is risky. The build I see that will be popular contains Scottie, Patrick Cantlay, and Tom Hoge. This leaves $7,100 for your next three roster spots. I would actually take a more balanced approach with JT, Cantlay, and Aberg and hope they can all can outscore Scottie.
Another interesting factor when it comes to Scottie's ownership is we should see casuals playing PGA DFS this week. There is no NFL DFS, meaning we should see quite a few casuals playing. They will see Scottie Scheffler, world number one in the field and not realize he has a serious injury.
I recommend a wait and see approach with Scottie, waiting to play him once the PGA TOUR returns east of the Mississippi.
Rory McIlroy ($10,700)
Our second Power Fade of the week makes for the rare time we are fading the top two players on the board. Rory McIlroy is our second Power Fade of the week, coming in at $10,700 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Rory is an interesting fade. He comes to us in good form, having finished 4th in Dubai last week. However this is a 4th place on a course he has dominated over the years.
When it comes to Pebble Beach, course history does come into play. Rory has never faired very well at a "Normal" Pebble Beach. In his two previous AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am appearances, Rory has an MC and a 66th.
Rory may just be here because it is a Signature Event. Historically, we have always seen Rory come stateside after the West Coast Swing. Pebble Beach neutralizes his greatest asset, and while I'm not saying he comes in DFL, I do believe he will be a non-factor come Sunday.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week for the real main event of the week.. (Not that lame Super Bowl) The WM Phoenix Open!
