Corales 2020 Betting Card

Betting the Corales Championship

The PGA Tour heads to the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Championship, and I am ready to bet sweat some long shots! Normally an alternate field event with the WGC going on, the Corales takes center stage on the PGA Tour despite a field as weak as Pat's bench press. Korn Ferry Stud WIll Zalatoris and Corey Conners are the betting favorites, but screw that!

We need to take the opposite approach as last week and focus on some long shots since this birdie fest can give us a winner from almost anywhere. I expect the winning score to be around -20. Corales features wide ass fairways, big paspalum greens and four par 5's you must take advantage of as a player. With winners like GMac and Brice Garnett, it's tough to take a name shorter than 40/1 all things considered at Corales.

There does not appear to be much of a weather advantage or tee time wave advantage as of Wednesday morning. The tournament looks to have a steady 10mph breeze, a threat of rain everyday, and hot as the Devil's Elbow...

My Betting Approach

I bet on golf for fun. You should too. Therefore, I don't get the betting erection I crave betting guys at 18/1 or 9/1. I realize that may be the sharper way to do things, but F that. I've felt the rush of have a big triple digit winning golf bet hit...and Daddy likes! Throughout the season, I'm going to show you my pre tournament bets, including what I'm risking, odds, and some brief logic behind the pick. I'm actually betting these guys. I'm taking $50 a week at $10 per unit to show you how I allot my dollars. Follow along, bet with me if you like, or completely fade everyone on this betting card. Up to you. However...I will say...I hit 5 bets in 2019 at 100/1 or longer. I finished the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season up 10 units over 30 weeks strictly betting the long shots (nothing shorter than 25/1).

Pay Attention!

Every week, I'll publish this with Outright bets that I'm watching closely on Tuesday. Then, late on Wednesday afternoons, I'll finalize the Outrights and First Round Leader selections for the $50 card. You can read up on Tuesday to get a sense for who I'm eyeballing, and then Wednesday to see who didn't quite make the cut for me when it came time to finalize the card.

My Corales Championship 2020 Picks

The Big Balls Betting Card is now down 10 units since the new PGA Tour season started with the Safeway after having English at 90/1 and Louie at 100/1 finish 3rd and 4th at the US Open. On the heels of 100/1 Higgs finishing solo 2nd at the Safeway, this means I'm getting dangerously close to hitting (hopefully). I'm dancing all over the big hit on Sunday afternoons, and as a result, I'll be betting strictly outrights as I don't see a big advantage on first round leader bets. I did list 3 first round leader bets I like if you're interested.

Luke List is my most confident play this week as the bomber won on the Korn Ferry Tour as the restart happened back in the summer, he bombs it and can win a high scoring contest. The group at 60/1 is an interesting one. I feel the best about Gordon (although he was 90/1 on Monday afternoon) and Zhang. Gordon's number shortening inspires confidence, but I hate not grabbing in at 90/1 on Monday. Mitchell and Rodgers make me a little queasy, but the talent and experience are there for both fellas.

My duo of Chris' in Baker (fyi...not European) and Kirk I like a lot here at Corales at 90/1. Kirk, like List, won a KFT event in the summer and if the putter gets hot, he certainly fits the past champ profile. Baker's been in solid form and is a tee to green specialist. I mentioned Chappell and Swafford on the podcast as long shots with win equity. Chappell is on limited starts with a major medical and this should be an event where his confidence and experience could get him major win equity. Swafford is a fantastic total driver of the ball and has flashed some form in spots since the restart.

I'm really hoping to get a win on the board here early in the year with a higher quantity of outrights on the card. Now, let's just hope a Stewart Cink at Safeway doesn't happen and Shawn Stefani wins this damn thing with 3 of my guys finishing in the top 5. Happy Betting!
