The Power Fade: 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship
The Approach for fades at the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
With Austin Eckroat's impressive display of scoring in Mexico behind us, we enter the true home stretch of the season this week. With 2 events left in the 2024 PGA Season, the boys are off to Bermuda this week. Port Royal Golf Course is our host this week. A Par 71 at 6,858 yards, Port Royal can be tamed if the weather cooperates.
Asking for the weather to cooperate however is a tall task in the Atlantic Ocean. Wind, wind, and more wind is in the forecast this week. This brings a ton of variance into play, and puts a premium on hitting fairways and greens.
As we make our final international stop of the 2024 season, let us take a look at who we should be fading in Bermuda. Bring on our Power Fades!
Mackenzie Hughes ($10,300)
Our first Power Fade of the week comes to us from north of the border. Mackenzie Hughes, aka Canadian Jordan Speith makes his return to the PF at a lofty $10,300 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
First of all, we are dealing with an over 10K MacKenzie Hughes. This alone is worth a fade.
Statistically speaking, the tee ball has not been a friend to Hughes. When it comes to Strokes Gained Off the Tee, Mac Hughes has struggled his way to ranking 98th in this field.
Should these coastal winds play a factor like we anticipate, Hughes isn't looking great in this category either. Ranking 90th in Fairways Percentage this week could be troubling for the Canadian, and I for one would be willing to take the chance these struggles continue.
We all know what Mac Hughes' game is. Magic Beans around the greens and putting. Hughes cannot hit a GIR to save his life it at times. Ranking 91st in GIR on a coastal, windy course where you have to hit greens seems like a recipe for a tough week. At 10K+ on DraftKings this week I'll take my chances that Mac's Magic Beans didn't get thru customs.
Justin Lower ($9,300)
Our second Power Fade of the week is making his debut in the PF. Justin Lower, who made a nice run on the weekend up the leaderboard is our second Power Fade of the week at $9,300.
Why The Fade Works:
It must be Swing Season Golf if we are getting Justin Lower at 9.3K on DraftKings. I am aware the field is not the strongest, paired with a nice week last week, but I would let the masses chase his performance in Mexico.
Lower isn't a statistical darling in this field. With a ranking of 86th in Fairway percentage, paired with 64th Strokes Off the Tee and we could see some trouble for the Malone University alum.
Additionally, Around the Green play hasn't been a strength for Lower either. Justin ranks 61st in Strokes Gained Around the Green, which when he is in his natural environment of 6k we can live with. When he is in the 9K's this is a different story.
Consequently, I would much rather have players such as Daniel Berger, Nico Echavarria, Jhonny Vegas or Andrew Novak who are more talented and cheaper.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will return to you next week for the season finale of the Power Fade as we head to that magical island off the coast of Georgia... It's mafia week as we head to Sea Island and the RSM Classic.
