Around the Clubhouse
Welcome to your place for all the light-hearted PGA TOUR content you need. We will be going around the clubhouse, reacting to many of the viral golf moments of the past week. From pro golf to your horrific swing, if it makes you laugh, then it may show up. This week we are focusing on the Zurich Classic.
We will take a look at some of the best moments at TPC Louisiana, as well as some that make you scratch your head. There may even be a LIV moment sprinkled in. Grab your beer, and let's get into it.
Caddie's Moment of Fame at the 2023 Zurich Classic
Play it as it lies! Brandon Matthews' tee shot on 18 landed on top of the Michelob ULTRA pop-up shop and his caddie hopped up and retrieved it. Now that is the kind of guy I would want holding my clubs. If your caddie is climbing up sketchy stuff to get your ball, that dude has your back.
The most popular caddie of the week's name is Piri Borja. It would be safe to say that he earned at least one Michelob ULTRA for his efforts.
Matthews and his partner Sean O'hair were tied for first after round 1 at the Zurich Classic. There are the benefits of best ball for you! Hit the beer cart and lose no strokes.
Zurich Classic- Get in the Holeeeeee
Chad Ramey holes out for eagle from 132 yards and shows absolutely zero reaction. NONE. No arms in the air, no jumping.
If that was me, my shirt would be off and I would likely be in the pond. I guess lacking calmness is why I am not playing at the Zurich Classic and am not good at golf.
Now this is the full package. The shot is perfect and the celly was even better.
Charley Hoffman mushes his hybrid right on line and straight into the cup.
Now first the club toss is all time. When you make a hole and one, that club better get launched into the air. Second, the little leap with the ring around the Rosie is what I like to see. Soild 8/10 on the celebration meter.
This is not an ace, but sheeeesh was this a brutal shot. Augusto Nuñez had a low chance of even going up and down, but he said watch this.
The energy and excitement is impressive, but the celebration was a bit discombobulated. There seemed to be thoughts of a chest bump, but instead a little awkward close body high-five situation. Once again I love the club chuck with zero regard for anyone around him. Just tomahawk that thing my man!
One team that seemed to click personality wise this week was Sungjae Im and Keith Mitchell. This is why I love the Zurich Classic. There is something in watching these guys play together that is so exciting.
Sungjae's perfect chip goes into the hole and nobody was happier than Keith. The pressers from this team were easily the best of the week.
There were convos about Im wearing visors, Keith learning Korean and Sungjae is now the biggest Georiga Bulldog fan in all of South Korea... allegedly.
Denny McCarthy drained a long birdie putt on Saturday, like he always does and his partner Joel Dahmen was loving every second of it.
Dahmen is known as one of the most low-key guys on tour and just wants to have fun playing. This is the first dude I would expect to see chucking a ball into the fans.
Not something you see often, but crowd favorite bucket hat Joel with another common W.
liv tour bryson is a party animal
Bryson Dechambeau is known as one of the more pissed-off golfers on the pro stage, but he seems to be living it up down in Australia at LIV Adelaide.
The big bomber spent some time on the range before the tournament began, mashing drives and hitting trick shots to get the crowd into it.
He then joined the Aussie Cam Smith in a shoey. For those who have never seen this before, that is when you drink something out of a used shoe. Why? I couldn't tell you, but why not I guess.
You can see the disgust on his face before, but he did seem to enjoy it much more than I would have expected. Watching someone drink out of a shoe when they are not shirtless and in college is a strange site. All in all though, it's probably the most exciting thing to watch out of all the golf that came from LIV this weekend.
