The Power Fade: 2024 Masters
The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 Masters
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
It is time! With the first Texas swing nearing our rearview mirror, we head to Augusta, Georgia and a "Small Gathering of Friends" as Bobby Jones once said.
Augusta, GA and the Augusta National Golf Club play host to the worlds best as another chapter in the LIV vs PGA battle will be waged.
ANGC plays as a Par 72, with long Par 4's many between 450-500 yards. The Par 5's are where one must really clean up in order to be in Butler Cabin Sunday night. Interesting of note is that Hole #2 has been lengthened by 10 yards with a tee box that requires a complete draw. Holes 13 and 15 will once again play as two of the most exciting par 5's in the game and provide some fireworks for any charge up the leaderboard.
As many of us have "Georgia on our minds" Let us take a look at who will not be heading to Butler Cabin to receive the Green Jacket on Sunday night!
Wyndham Clark ($10,000)
Our First Power Fade of the week is a DFS darling at the top of the board and who many I believe think can be the first debutant to win at the Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. Wyndham Clark is our first Power Fade of the week at $10,000 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Wyndy C being 10k this week makes for an interesting dilemma. We have multiple names above him not coming down Magnolia Lane in the best form (Rahm, Brooks, Rory).
Current form is a major factor for predictive success at ANGC, and this could lead many to hop on the sexy, sneaky play of Clark.
Statistically speaking however, Wyndy C has some warts that making fading him the prudent play. Scrambling will be a key factor this week, and Clark comes into the week ranked 49th in this category. While Clark loves to rack up birdies in bunches, this is when he is hitting greens.
Even in these nuclear hot rounds that propel him up the leaderboard, he has struggled to scramble in these rounds. ANGC has some of the trickiest green complexes in the world, not necessarily putting wise. If you struggle to scramble, ANGC will serve you your lunch, and it ain't no Pimento Cheese sandwich.
Joaquin Niemann ($9,600)
Our second Power Fade of the week is a man who has really shown his true talent this year with multiple world wide wins. Joaquin Niemann is our second Power Fade at $9,600 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Niemann is going to be a flashy pick no doubt this week. However, when you look into the stats, there becomes ample evidence to warrant a fade on the rising star.
Scrambling yet again rears it's ugly head when it comes to Niemann. Ranking 58th in this field for scrambling is concerning considering even the best ball strikers miss greens at AGNC.
While sprayers of the ball have had success around AGNC, you still have to have some accuracy off the tee. Niemann and his 54% driving accuracy may not be the best fit long term for the Masters. With Niemann's poor scrambling, this puts pressure on his off the tee game which could limit his upside.
Niemann's course history has not been the most stellar either. In 4 trips around AGNC, his best finish is 16th. Paying $9,600 for someone who has never finished in the Top 15 at AGNC is a hard sell. Consequently the better option is to pay up $300 for Xander Schauffele who should be a Top 10 lock.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week as we head to Hilton Head Island, for the RBC Heritage.
