The Power Fade: 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

Scottie Scheffler wins again... sigh....

The PGA TOUR wheels its way to the Motor City: Detroit, Michigan for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. After weeks of intense events with stacked fields, we have only a handful of the Top 30 in the world making their way to Detroit G.C.

Detroit G.C., a Donald Ross design plays as a Par 72, 7300 yards. Home to two courses on the property, 17 holes from the South Course and 1 from the North Course are used for tournament play.

This week will be a birdie fest. With the unseasonable hot weather Detroit has had coupled with little rain, we will see a fast golf course with BOMBS being hit off the tee.

While bombing it off the tee will be the strategy for many, putting will be a core focus this week. A hot putter will be essential this week with the winning score hovering around -20.

As the PGA TOUR rolls into my neck of the woods, let us take a look at who our Power Fades are for the Rocket Mortgage Classic!

Tom Kim ($11,000)

Our first Power Fade of the week comes to us from the top of board. Tom Kim is our first Power Fade coming in at $11,000 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

The Rocket Mortgage tends to play as a high variance tournament where the favorites can easily under perform. Factor in an 11K Tom Kim who has played 8 weeks in a row and it may be time to look elsewhere with our builds.

Statistically, Kim isn't the greatest fit for Detroit, G.C. Players will tear up the Par 5's this week, yet Tom hasn't had the most success here. Ranking 50th in Par 5 Scoring is really concerning, especially at such a high price.

Furthermore, Tom the Tank struggles from the key distance of 80-130 yards. With an event this week that will feature numerous "pitch and putt" opportunities, ranking 86th in this category isn't ideal.

I know he's playing well, but just ask yourself the question... Are we really paying 11k for Tom Kim? To me that answer is a resounding no.

Cameron Young ($10,700)

Our second Power Fade of the week made history last week at TPC River Highlands. Mr. 59 himself, Scam... I mean Cam Young returns to the PF at $10,700 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

When you look at the stats on Cam Young, it is really incredible that he shot a 59 considering some of his deficiencies.

Let's look at Par 5 scoring. Cam left a Par 5 out there in his march to 59, and statistically this isn't surprising. Young ranks 100th in Par 5 scoring.

"Pitch and Putt" isn't a strength of our 23rd ranked player in the world. Our BTN model says Cam ranks 75th from the 80-150 yard range, and compounding these struggles is ranking 81st SG Putting.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week, as we head to Quad Cities and the John Deere Classic!
