The Power Fade: 2024 John Deere Classic

The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 John Deere Classic

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

The Rocket Mortgage Classic, which for 3 rounds played like a local muni, showed some teeth on Sunday for a gripping finish. Cam Davis once again hoisted the trophy, and yours truly nailed his local event in the DFS streets.

Showdown was very kind to ol' AK as I had sweats going in the $10 18 max contest on DraftKings. With finishes of 7th (Single Bullet) on Friday, 4th (15 entries) on Saturday, and 4th (3 entries) on Sunday we netted a nice chunk of cash.

The Power Fade had mixed results. We nailed the Tom Kim fade as he MC'd. Cam Young was in contention for awhile and a nice finish. However he proved himself once again to be Scam Young to his outright backers.

The PGA TOUR moves on to Silvas, IL and the John Deere Classic. As you can imagine, this course is also named TPC Deere Run in honor of that amazing company that is our title sponsor.

TPC Deere will play host to another birdie fest. A Par 71, playing a shade under 7,300 yards, target golf is the name of the game once again. Players will often find wedges and short irons in their hands this week.

Warm temperatures will make TPC Deere Run ripe for scoring this week. Consequently we should see a winning score around -20.

As we take on the Quad Cities this week, let us see who's harvest will be barren, and who won't "Run Like a Deere". Bring on the Power Fades for the John Deere Classic!

Nick Dunlap ($8,900)

Our first Power Fade of the week comes to us from the 8K range. While he has never won on the PGA TOUR as a professional, Nick Dunlap did the unthinkable this winning as an Amateur. However this week could tell a different tale.

Why The Fade Works:

Nick Dunlap is ultra-talented, there is no denying this. However, his youth and inexperience leads to inconsistent performances.

Dunlap, for his numerous nice finishes this season hasn't exactly followed them up the next event. During the 2024 season, Dunlap has 4 top 25 finishes including his win at the American Express. His best finish in the next event is 80th (Dead Last) at Pebble Beach with 3 MC's mixed in.

Statistically, one could see why Dunlap may struggle, even in this weak field. Nick ranks 88th in the key Approach Range of 125-180 yards. Putting has been a struggle for the former Crimson Tide standout, as he ranks 57th in this field.

While TPC Deere Run plays as a Birdie fest, the Par 3 can be quite daunting. Dunlap hasn't exactly excelled in this category, ranking 84th in Par 3 Scoring.

If Dunlap was $7,500 like Neil Shipley, we could look past these stats. $8,900 on DraftKings is a different ballgame. Considering Dunlap's consistency for inconsistency, we can look elsewhere this week in our GPP's.

Keith Mitchell ($9,200)

Our second Power Fade of the week is someone who they call "Killa", yet has shown to be quite the opposite. Keith Mitchell is our second Power Fade of the week at $9,200 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

Keith Mitchell sucks at putting, there I said it. In an event where the putter has to heat up, we really can't count on this for the former Georgia Bulldog. Mitchell ranks 59th in putting. His egregious putting display at the Rocket Mortgage gives you pause to playing him at any moment this season.

Mitchell hasn't exactly been stellar off the tee of late either. Last week Mitchell lost strokes  off the tee, at an event where you can spray the ball. Until further notice we have to fade the head case that is Keith Mitchell.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week, as we head across the pond to Scotland and Genesis Scottish Open.
