The Power Fade: 2024 Genesis Invitational

The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 Genesis Invitational

What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!

Coming off the heels of "The People's Open" Which saw Nick Taylor have a career putting week en route to a playoff victory, and yours truly take 2nd Place in the 4th Round 10$ 18 max Showdown Slate for a cool $1,000. This week we head back to California and beautiful Riviera Country Club, where a familiar face returns as Player/Host.

Tiger Woods makes his 2024 debut in this 70 man field that will feature a Top 50 cut (Think Masters style). Interestingly while he serves as tournament host, Tiger has never won at Riviera CC.

After a week in the desert where you could bomb and gauge, we return to penalizing rough with an emphasis on finding the fairway. Riviera CC plays as a 7,300 yard Par 71. Hole #1 plays as one of the easiest Par 5's on the PGA Tour making it vital to shoot a quality score. Hole #10 plays as a devilish short Par 4, where laying up makes the hole harder to birdie.

What seems in a shocking (Not Really...) turn of events, weather may play a factor this week as the historic fronts hitting the west coast will continue. I would expect scoring this week to fall in the -14 to -16 range.

As we hit the bright lights of Hollywood, let's take a look at who will not be our leading men.

Cameron Young ($8,500)

We kick off the Power Fade this week in the mid 8K range with a DFS darling. Cameron Young makes an appearance in the Power Fade this week at $8,500 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

Cameron Young had been flying under the radar with his good play. With solid finishes in the Middle East, Young rode some decent form into quality finishes at the AM EX, and last week at the WM.

Statistically speaking however, Young still has deficiencies that make fading him the play. Cameron ranks 60th in Strokes Gained Approach. Iron play will be key at Riviera this week and Young has been masking his mediocre Iron Play with a hot putter. Should Cameron's putter not be en fuego again this week, we might see a bottom of the leaderboard finish.

While Riviera isn't exactly a true "Birdie-fest", you will still need to score to contend. Young ranks 43rd in the field for Birdies or Better. Leaving the desert and returning to Poa may leave Young scrambling for pars, yet alone making birdies.

Adam Scott ($8,200)

Our second Power Fade of the week is one of our more bold fades to date. Adam Scott, a pure course horse at Riviera is our second Power Fade at $8,200 on DraftKings.

Why The Fade Works:

Scott has everything you want in a play at Riviera there is no doubt. However, ownership on the Aussie has gotten to a point where from lineup construction we can pivot to higher upside players that can help us differentiate our way up the leaderboard.

Statistically, when it comes to Par 4 scoring from 450-500 yards Scott isn't the strongest in this field. With a ranking of 37th for this distance, we could argue that pivoting to someone who is significantly better in this metric at lower ownership (Wyndham Clark) is the play.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week as we head south of the border for the Mexico Open!
