The Power Fade: 2024 CJ CUP BYRON NELSON
The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 CJ CUP BYRON NELSON
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
WE ARE BACK BABY! After taking a week off for the dopey team event in New Orleans, we head to Texas to honor Iron Byron.
TPC Craig Ranch is the "King of Birdie-fests". Playing as a Par 71, 7,400 yards we will see these guys tear it up good to the tune of -25 under par.
As we march our way to Major Season let's take a look at who our Power Fades will be for the Byron Nelson!
Jason Day ($10,400)
Our First Power Fade of the week is our defending champion from last year. Jason Day makes his return to the Power Fade coming in at a lofty $10,400 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Jason Day, with his odd wardrobe has has a decent season. We know come to a weak field event where name value alone will increase his ownership. Factor in that he has won on this course and we have a recipe for some chalk at the top of the board.
Statistically, Day has actually regressed compared to this time last year. Strokes Gained Approach will be key this week, and Day hasn't gained in this category since the West Coast Swing (Genesis).
Ranking 133rd in Strokes Gained Approach is concerning. Factor in the key distance ranges this week of 150-175 yards and 175-200 yards where he ranks 102nd and 107th respectively and the case can be made that Day will underwhelm at his price.
Putting has carried the "Day" for ol' J-Day and we all know how that can flip on a dime.
Birdies are going to be coming in bunches this week, but the teeth of TPC Craig Ranch comes in the long Par 3's. Day ranks 142nd in Par 3 birdies. With so much variance in these birdie-fests, we need to be able to score all over the course. Day just simply hasn't been accomplishing this goal.
Adam Schenk ($8,500)
Our second Power Fade of the week is a name we are not used to seeing this high in price. My fellow Mid-Westerner Adam Schenk makes his Power Fade debut this week at $8,500 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Adam Schenk is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. He has rounds where he nukes the slate, then stalls out the next day can barely score. Schenk is the ultimate boom/bust play this week. Our flow chart says when we start to see ownership on these player profiles, it is time to walk away.
Schenk like Jason Day struggles from the key range, which is really baffling. Ranking 87th (175-200 yards) and 93rd (150-175 yards) makes you begin to wonder if Schenk can go deep enough to pay off his price tag this week.
Furthermore, we need to keep in mind that now Schenk has to have 4 solid rounds to pay off even at $8,500. We are used to seeing low 7K-6K Adam Schenk where he could have a bad round and still be optimal. Schenk is a better fit for Colonial CC and not necessarily the birdie-fest of TPC Craig Ranch.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week with another Signature Event! We are off to Charolette and Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo Championship!
