The Power Fade: 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge
The Approach to fading big names for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
Xander finally wins the big one! Following a historic PGA Championship at Valhalla the PGA TOUR heads back to Texas and a familiar venue.
Colonial C.C. plays host to the Charles Schwab Challenge. A staple on tour since 1946, Colonial plays as a Par 70, tipping out at roughly 7,100 yards.
Unlike many courses on today's PGA TOUR, Colonial plays as a positional track that rewards accuracy over bomb and gauge. Winning scores over the years has varied, as those infamous Texas winds can wreck havoc.
Weather this week appears to be hot and humid. Scoring should hover between -9 and -13.
As we begin our march to Pinehurst and the US Open, let us take a look at who will not be wearing the Tarten Jacket come Sunday evening at Colonial C.C. Bring on the Power Fades for the Charles Schwab Challenge!
Tom Hoge ($9,300)
Our First Power Fade of the week has caught immense amount of steam from all the touts. Former TCU Horned Frog Tom Hoge makes his Power Fade debut at $9,300 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
When you do a breakdown of what your prototype golfer for Colonial would be, Tom Hoge in theory is the mold.
However, this is why golf is a game played on the course and not on paper. Statistically, Hoge has been struggling off the tee of late, ranking 80th in Strokes Gained Off The Tee.
While Colonial is the definition of target golf, Hoge hasn't excelled from the Key range this week of 125-175 yards. Tom ranks 49th in this category.
Colonial C.C. which has historically has seen winners hang around -10 means players will be missing greens. Hoge ranks 113th in the field Strokes Gained Around the Green.
When it comes to ownership, early projections have Hoge being chalk of the 9K range this week. If the above stats were not convincing enough, just ask yourself "When has playing chalk Tom Hoge ever worked?"
Billy Horschel ($8,800)
Our second Power Fade of the week is someone who had the most uneventful Top 10 you'll ever see in a major last week. Billy Horschel is our second Power Fade of the week, coming in at $8,800 on DraftKings.
Why The Fade Works:
Billy Horschel has had one of the quietest good years on tour this season. People forget that Billy Ho even has a win (Puerto Rico) this season on his resume.
However, now that he has gotten some attention, we have to look into some stats, and the numbers begin to point in the direction of the fade.
Billy comes into Colonial ranking 91st in approach from the key range of 150-175 yards. Strokes Gained Approach has not been a friend to Horschel either, as he ranks 77th in this field.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade! We will be returning to you next week we head North of the Border to Canada for the RBC Canadian Open!
