The Power Fade: 2023 World Wide Technologies championship
The Approach to fading big names for the world wide technologies Championship
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you another edition of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
Colin Morikawa's dominating final round in Japan led to a very anti-climactic finish, however the Power Fade found its way back to form with Rickie Fowler (T-64) and Alex Noren (T-48).
We return from a one week break to get a look at a brand new course designer. You may have heard of him: Eldrick Tont Woods.
El Cardonal at Diamante is a scoring paradise. A Par 72 playing around 7,300 yards, we see fairways so wide that you could land a 747 on. With little defense on this resort course, scoring will be low, with a winning score ranging from -25 to -30.
Without further adieu, let us dive into who our Power Fades are for the World Wide Technologies Championship!
Akshay Bhatia ($9,200)
Our first Power Fade of the week is the ultra-talented Akshay Bhatia. With an aggressive mindset, a player like Bhatia would seem to make perfect sense this week, but a few glaring holes in his game makes him a great Power Fade this week.
Why The Fade Works:
Bhatia can score in bunches. Anyone who plays PGA TOUR DFS, especially on DraftKings understands how valuable a guy like Akshay can be when he outscores his finishing position.
However, Bhatia loves himself a big number. Ranking 55th in this field for Bogey Avoidance leaves quite to be desired at 9.2K on DraftKings. If Bhatia was in his normal low to mid 7K price tag, we could work with that as he would be the third or fourth man in your lineup. At 9.2K we have to invest so much capital with Bhatia that his high variance tendencies may be too risky at this price.
Akshay's putter is putrid to say the least. Ranking 100th in this field for Strokes Gained Putting is alarming at 9.2K on DraftKings. In a putting contest I just find it hard to believe Akshay can keep pace with players around him in the 9K and above range. Pivot up the board and move on this week with confidence.
Stephen Jaeger ($10,200)
Stephan Jaeger is our second Power Fade of the week at $10,200. While the idea ol' Jaeger bombs seems fun, the stats point us in the direction of staying away.
Why The Fade Works:
Jaeger has been a roller coaster ride over the last 12 months upon his return to the PGA TOUR. His scorecards seem to be littered with birdie streaks, however Jaeger ranks 78th in birdies this week. Coupled with a 94th in Opportunities Gained, and we have a recipe for a Friday trunk slam. In a field where you will have to get into the deep 20 under par range, it appears Jaeger may not be able to get to that number and pay off his price tag.
Jaeger's putting leaves quite to be desired. Ranking 90th in putting, Jaeger's all or nothing results at his 10.2K price tag is difficult to swallow. Especially considering that Ludvig Aberg has been en fuego of late. Pay up for Aberg and take a pass on the shot of Jaeger.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will return to you next week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship!
