The Power Fade: 2023 Travelers Championship
The Approach to fading big names for the 2023 Travelers Championship
What’s going on TJ Nation! Allen Klutts here with another addition of The Power Fade: The Fades 8k and Above that will help you smash your DraftKings GPP's.
Coming off the heels of Wyndham Clark's incredible victory at the US Open, the PGA Tour zooms back across the country to Connecticut and the Travelers Championship.
TPC River Highlands is the second shortest course on the PGA Tour schedule, and fans should expect a birdie fest.
Without further adieu, let's get into the Power Fades for this elevated event!
Xander Schauffele ($10,400)
Our defending champion, Xander Schauffele is our first Power Fade of the week at $10,400.
Why The Fade Works:
I am well aware that Xander's stats line up very well for TPC River Highlands. Overall, If you wanted to play Xander I could see many reasons why. However, there is one stat where the X man is woeful compared to the other in this range. Coming in ranked 111th in the key Par 4 range of 400-450 yards, this makes for an interesting reason to fade Xander.
Birdie fests lend itself to high variance scenarios. Xander will probably make the cut this week, this I have no doubt on. However, a high priced Xander has to at least finish in the Top 5 to meet value.
Consider this as well. You could pay $400 more and get yourself up to Jon Rahm this week. Rahm should come in at an ownership discount this week. Talent + Ownership Discount = Fade Xander and pivot to Rahm.
Sahith Theegala ($8,300)
Sahith Theegala, our second place finisher from last year, makes his Power Fade debut this week at $8,300.
Why The Fade Works:
Sahith is a darling of the DFS community. He lights up the scorecard, has a personality that makes you want to root for him.
However, the stats this week do not support playing Theegala. Starting with Strokes Gained Off the Tee where Sahith ranks 136th. Pair this with a 146th in Good Drives and we have a recipe for disaster.
This week we are going to need to take advantage of scoring opportunities. When it comes to Opportunities Gained, Sahith ranks a measly 96th in this field. Numbers like this are not pointing toward a good week for the Pepperdine star, and quite honestly makes that second place finish from last year look like a fluke.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will return to you next week as head to the Motor City for The Rocket Mortgage Classic in my home state of Michigan!
Until then Be Bold, Be Brave, and Let's Ride the Power Fade!
"Consider this as well. You could pay $400 more and get yourself up to Jon Rahm this week. Rahm should come in at an ownership discount this week. Talent + Ownership Discount = Fade Xander and pivot to Rahm."
