The Power Fade: 2023 John Deere Classic
The Approach to fading big names for the 2023 John Deere Classic
What’s going on TJ Nation! Allen Klutts here with another addition of The Power Fade: The Fades 8k and Above that will help you smash your DraftKings GPP's.
With Rickie Fowler's return to the Winner's Circle at Detroit Golf Club making for the feel good story of 2023, we continue on to the Quad Cities and the John Deere Classic this week.
This field stinks, let's call it what for what its worth. However, we can still make money this week with some key fades in our GPP's.
After a 2-0 week last week, Let's get into our Power Fades for the John Deere Classic!
Denny McCarthy ($10,600)
Denny McCarthy kicks off our first Power Fade of the week at $10,600. The mere fact that we are saying Denny McCarthy is the highest priced player in the field just seems gross to say. This statement is proof positive of how weak this field is.
Why The Fade Works:
Everyone knows Denny is a wizard with the putter. If Scottie Scheffler had Denny putting for him every week he would never lose.
Where Denny lacks is off-the-tee. Ranking 62nd Strokes Gained Off The Tee and also 55th in Opportunities Gained makes for a great fade at his price tag. Factor in an abysmal 113th Proximity from 125-150 yards, and we have major bust potential.
Additionally, The JDC is a high variance shootout. I just cannot get behind playing a guy we are used to seeing as a complimentary piece in a situation where he needs a Top 5 to return value. If this was Scottie Scheffler i'd be full send, but Denny McCarthy, I'll pass and take my chances.
Ludvig Aberg ($10,100)
Last week, Ludvig made history as the youngest player to make the Power Fade. This week Ludvig makes history as the first player to appear in The Power Fade back-to-back weeks.
Why The Fade Works:
I will repeat what I said last week: Aberg is MEGA-Talented, his future is incredibly bright, but his stats leave less than to be desired.
Like Denny McCarthy, Aberg is struggling when it comes to the key proximity range of 125-150. At the Rocket Mortgage "Pitch and Putt" last week, Aberg could not sustain his hot start losing -3.2 strokes on approach for the week total.
Aberg still struggles Off the Tee. One week has not solved this issue. Ranking 79th in Good Drives is not something we want to see from someone who is $10,100 on DraftKings.
Compliment this with a putter that is below average, and we now have a case to once again fade the Swedish Sensation in a "pitch and putt" tournament.
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will return to you next week as head across the pond for Genesis Scottish Open!
Until then Be Bold, Be Brave, and Let's Ride the Power Fade!
