The Power Fade: 2023 Fortinet Championship
The Approach to fading big names for the 2023 Fortinet Championship
What’s going on TJ Nation! Ann Arbor's Own Good Ol' AK Allen Klutts here bringing you the SEASON PREMIERE of the Power Fade: The Fades 8K and Above You Need to Smash Your DraftKings GPP's!
The PGA TOUR heads back to California this week as Max Homa looks to three-peat the Fortinet Championship. With the new Fed Ex Cup rules taking effect this week, we find ourselves with a weak field as many big names are getting ready for the Ryder Cup in a few weeks.
Silverado Resort hosts the Fortinet Championship. A Par 72 playing just over 7,100 yards, we should see optimal scoring with the winning score ranging between -16 to -20 under par.
The Fall Swing also means that people will be sleeping at the wheel of PGA contests. This means there is no better time to get in the Nut Hut for the best intel and comradery in the DFS Streets! Sign up today and be sure to check out all the Nut Hut has to offer!
With that being said, grab yourself a glass of wine and let's uncork our Power Fades for the Fortinet Championship!
Sahith Theegala ($9,800)
Sahith Theegala is our first Power Fade of the week at $9,800. While the PGA TOUR's "Mr. Congeniality" makes for a great playing partner, he is not a good match for our DraftKings lineups this week.
Why The Fade Works:
As we delve into the stats this week, Theegala ranks poorly in two key statistics. Ranking 114th in Good Drives is troubling to say the least. Yes, Silverado Resort isn't exactly Winged Foot when it comes to driving accuracy, but having this poor of a ranking is concerning. Theegala is prone to struggling with the big stick, we all know this. Why would we trust someone at this price tag in a high variance situation.
Additionally, Sahith ranks 104th in Green in Regulations Gained. In a birdie fest we need guys who pepper GIR. People always look at the great rounds Sahith has and get the "It's finally time" vibe. What they fail to see is the why he has poor rounds.
Again I cannot stress enough that at $9,800 on DraftKings we need to pass on Sahith and pivot up the board to proven commodities such as Cam Davis.
Akshay Bhatia ($8,700)
Our second Power Fade of the week is another DFS darling. Akshay Bhatia cracks the Power Fade for the first time in his young career, and I have a feeling we can gain a real edge with this Power Fade.
Why The Fade Works:
Bhatia is incredibly talented, there is no doubt about this statement. However he is still very prone to ejecting early on a Thursday and absolutely nuking your GPP lineups. In these weak field events, avoiding someone as volaitile like Bhatia will help us more than it hurts us.
Looking at the stats, Bhatia isn't exactly a world beater even in this weak field. Ranking 88th in Strokes Gained Par 4 is incredibly concerning. The even bigger albatross around Akshay's neck is his putter. It is no secret Bhatia flat out SUCKS at putting. At 143rd in this field in SG Putting, I am not taking my chances with this in a birdie fest.
Yes, the Ball Striking stats are incredible for Bhatia, but can he consistently keep pace with the field in this putting contest. I think this answer is no, and I am willing to take this risk with a fade. People want Akshay to be a thing, but as a cult classic film from the mid 2000s once said "Stop trying to make fetch happen!".
That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will be returning to you soon with some more fades as we are full steam ahead with the Ryder Cup and the Fall Swing!
