The Power Fade: 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship

The Approach to fading big names for the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship

What’s going on TJ Nation! Allen Klutts here with another addition of The Power Fade: The Fades 8k and Above that will help you smash your DraftKings GPP's.

With Lucas Glover returning to the winner's circle at the Wyndham in our rearview mirror, we head to Memphis for the FedEx St Jude Championship and the first leg of the Playoffs!

TPC Southwind presents another Par 70 this week. With narrow but soft fairways, the players should score well despite trouble lurking all over the course. DraftKings Scoring will also be critical this week as we have a No Cut Event.

With 6 straight Missed Cuts for the Power Fade, we aren't "Walkin' In Memphis" we are off and running with our Power Fades for the Fed Ex St. Jude!

Sam Burns ($8,100)

Sam Burns kicks off our Power Fades this week at $8,100. While Burns has shown some life the last few weeks, the stats just do not support the ownership he will be carrying this week.

Why The Fade Works:

When you look at Sam Burn's stats, it leaves much to be desired for the LSU product.

Let's start with Good Drives. Getting off the tee with these tight fairways, especially with trouble lurking will be key to success. Burns ranks 59th in this field for Good Drives. Additionally, Burns ranks 43rd in Birdies. While we will not see a -26 type tournament this week, birdies will still be abound in Memphis.

Considering the Burns was -2 SGOTT last week on a course where you had more room from the Tee Box, I think we have a great opportunity to fade Burns for the St. Jude. This is a classic case of good results at Sedgefield with bad stats for TPC Southwind. People will look at the results but not dive in, so we can pivot elsewhere for less ownership, and better upside.

Rickie Fowler ($9,500)

Rickie Fowler is our second Power Fade of the week at $9,500. While the Rickie resurgeance has been in full bloom this year, the signs point to the pedals falling off the flower this week.

Why The Fade Works:

Rickie's stats will always pop, especially considering we are not that far removed from Fowler gaining over 15 strokes off the tee at the Rocket Mortgage. However, we are getting into a situation where we have to decide wether near 20% ownership is an optimal play.

Consider this as well, Fowler's course history isn't the greatest. A 64th last year gives us pause to if a $9,500 Fowler is worth the play. Additionally, if we break down Fowler's last 24 rounds on Par 70 courses, he ranks 41st in ball striking.

TPC Southwind is a ball striker's paradise, and while Fowler isn't egregious, the stats are not the level of a $9,500 golfer. With everyone getting four rounds this week, I think we can get more scoring upside from others in the field.

That's it folks for this week's edition of the Power Fade. We will be back next week for the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs: The BMW Championship from Chicago!

Until then Be Bold, Be Brave, and Let's Ride the Power Fade!
